Running the 100 Heads studio has more costs than many realize. In addition to regular studio rent & upgrades we cover costs for lights, studio easels for artists, printing flyers, food & beverages for parties, and of course tater tots.

What is the 100 Heads SOCIETY?

From humble beginnings in Lauren's basement, friends came to pose as models in a casual practice setting. The society has developed into a grant-funded event open to the public.

Artists are able to make art from a live, volunteer model every Monday from 6-9pm at Parkdale studios. Check out our code of conduct that we ask all visitors to abide by below!

Come to the 100 Heads Society studio on Saturday, March 15th from 2-5pm to see the culmination of the past 6 months of weekly portrait sessions featuring volunteer models from the community and help support local artists!
Artists who have attended portrait night: bring your paintings to the studio any Monday from now until the show to participate & clearly mark on the back if you will be donating your piece to the models!

A continuation from the first portrait class- learn to develop your paintings with composition, features, lessons on painting hair and clothes and studying contemporary masters! All culminating with a live model in the last class.

Just announced! Founder Lauren Carlo is doing a 4 week series of portrait classes in the month of January.

This hands-on workshop focuses on:
The Schematics of the Face: Gain a solid understanding of facial proportions and structure.
Building the Portrait Strategically: Learn a systematic approach to layering and developing a portrait.
Mastering Specific Features: Explore techniques to capture the details and essence of individual facial features.

Over the course of four consecutive classes, students will have the opportunity to learn directly from Lauren—a Mayor’s Portrait Finalist, Oil Painters of America Wet Painting Competition Blue Ribbon Winner, and founder of the 100 Heads Society in Baltimore. Lauren also runs a regularly sold out figure drawing class for creative alliance once a month.

Each session which runs from Noon until 2 pm emphasizes active painting, with most of the class time dedicated to practice. Additionally, students are invited to stay for an optional hour (2:00–3:00 PM) after each class to further refine their skills and apply the day’s lessons.

Materials & Equipment:
Materials are not provided, so participants should bring their own supplies. A limited number of easels will be available for use on a first-come, first-served basis.

Whether you’re a beginner painter or a intermediate artist looking to deepen your skills, this workshop offers an incredible chance to learn the art of alla prima portrait painting from an accomplished artist in Baltimore.

What started as a joke one portrait night became a proud moment for the 100 Heads Society - we marched in the local Mayor’s Christmas Parade this past Sunday. I think all of us felt it as we marched through the streets- pride for all of our hard work showing up on Mondays to paint, pride for our society and pride in our city of Baltimore.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible by coming to march, to operate the hydra and to be slain by one small knight along the way! KEEP BALTIMORE WEIRD

Tonight 6-8, the last crafting opportunity before the Mayors Christmas Parade tomorrow! Help us with the final touches at the 100 Heads Studio!

Meet before noon in the Division 2 area on the map- we will be right next to the Baltimore Polytechnic School!

Friends are welcome to join us at any point in the parade to walk, but we would love to see you at the start! For those arriving on time: Our entry is Number 68 in Division 2, Group 6(see link for staging area map). You are urged to be in position no later than 12:00 pm The parade will start promptly at 1:00 pm.

The Mayors Parade Puppet is coming along! We have our banner painted, necks of the hydra mascot attached and the faces laser cut out of wood! During crafting the 3 heads of our mascot were named: Monet, Manet and Mayonnaise.

One more session to help construct our hydra before the big day- remember we are looking for friends to come walk with us Sunday December 8th, the more the better!

Why the hydra? The mythical creature grows two heads for every one chopped off- we aspire to be like a hydra that amasses many heads over time (and hard work!) Thankfully our hydra doesn’t have poisonous breath and blood.

We’re crafting for our float in the Mayor’s Christmas parade today from 12-2pm at the studio! Dm us if you’d like to help out today or in the future before the parade! We’re looking for crafters & people who would want to walk in the parade with us!

The 100 Heads Society is preparing to walk in the Hampden Mayor’s Christmas Parade! Friends of the society, let us know if you are interested in walking with us Sunday Dec 8, parade starts at 1 pm, arrive earlier to walk! (More details later)
