Running the 100 Heads studio has more costs than many realize. In addition to regular studio rent & upgrades we cover costs for lights, studio easels for artists, printing flyers, food & beverages for parties, and of course tater tots.

What is the 100 Heads SOCIETY?

From humble beginnings in Lauren's basement, friends came to pose as models in a casual practice setting. The society recieved a grant to move into a studio space and is open to the public.

Artists are able to make art from a live, volunteer model every Monday from 6-9pm at Parkdale studios. The cost is $5 in advance or at the door but we do not want money to prohibit any artist from coming. Please talk to an organizer if you have considerations!

Get prepped for Plein air painting!
Lauren will be teaching using images, paintings and books to explain the techniques and materials needed to be a successful plein air painter. Lauren will provide materials for working!

Are you ready to paint after the amazing @ruthfittonportraits demo last Monday? Well you're in luck since portrait night is back tonight from 6-9pm at Parkdale studios! Just a heads up this week we will be starting our $5 fee for portrait nights, which will help us keep our group sustainable and continue to provide opportunities for our group to learn from some of the best artists in the world! One thing that's not changing, though, is that we'll always have tots at the end 🥔❤️

Dear 100 Heads Society friends, artists, and models,

After much thoughtful consideration, we’ve decided to begin charging $5 for Monday night sessions.

For as long as possible, we’ve worked hard to keep these nights free—funding them through classes, parties, workshops, and special events. But as our community has grown, so have our needs, and the current model just isn’t financially sustainable.

Our goal has always been to create a lasting space for artists in Baltimore. We want 100 Heads to not only cover rent each month, but also to thrive—bringing in visiting artists, offering better resources, and making sure no single organizer is ever left carrying the financial burden alone. For this club to have a long future, it needs to support itself.

We hope you’ll understand this shift and continue to support what has become such a meaningful part of Baltimore’s creative community.

If $5 presents a hardship for anyone, please don’t hesitate to reach out to an organizer in person or by email—we’re happy to work something out. Everyone is welcome here.

Thank you for being part of what makes this group so special. We’re excited for this new chapter of 100 Heads and the future we’re building together—for Baltimore, and for the portrait scene across the country.

Just announced! Founder Lauren Carlo is doing a 4 week series of portrait classes in the month of January.

This hands-on workshop focuses on:
The Schematics of the Face: Gain a solid understanding of facial proportions and structure.
Building the Portrait Strategically: Learn a systematic approach to layering and developing a portrait.
Mastering Specific Features: Explore techniques to capture the details and essence of individual facial features.

Over the course of four consecutive classes, students will have the opportunity to learn directly from Lauren—a Mayor’s Portrait Finalist, Oil Painters of America Wet Painting Competition Blue Ribbon Winner, and founder of the 100 Heads Society in Baltimore. Lauren also runs a regularly sold out figure drawing class for creative alliance once a month.

Each session which runs from Noon until 2 pm emphasizes active painting, with most of the class time dedicated to practice. Additionally, students are invited to stay for an optional hour (2:00–3:00 PM) after each class to further refine their skills and apply the day’s lessons.

Materials & Equipment:
Materials are not provided, so participants should bring their own supplies. A limited number of easels will be available for use on a first-come, first-served basis.

Whether you’re a beginner painter or a intermediate artist looking to deepen your skills, this workshop offers an incredible chance to learn the art of alla prima portrait painting from an accomplished artist in Baltimore.

What started as a joke one portrait night became a proud moment for the 100 Heads Society - we marched in the local Mayor’s Christmas Parade this past Sunday. I think all of us felt it as we marched through the streets- pride for all of our hard work showing up on Mondays to paint, pride for our society and pride in our city of Baltimore.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible by coming to march, to operate the hydra and to be slain by one small knight along the way! KEEP BALTIMORE WEIRD

Meet before noon in the Division 2 area on the map- we will be right next to the Baltimore Polytechnic School!

Friends are welcome to join us at any point in the parade to walk, but we would love to see you at the start! For those arriving on time: Our entry is Number 68 in Division 2, Group 6(see link for staging area map). You are urged to be in position no later than 12:00 pm The parade will start promptly at 1:00 pm.

The Mayors Parade Puppet is coming along! We have our banner painted, necks of the hydra mascot attached and the faces laser cut out of wood! During crafting the 3 heads of our mascot were named: Monet, Manet and Mayonnaise.

One more session to help construct our hydra before the big day- remember we are looking for friends to come walk with us Sunday December 8th, the more the better!

Why the hydra? The mythical creature grows two heads for every one chopped off- we aspire to be like a hydra that amasses many heads over time (and hard work!) Thankfully our hydra doesn’t have poisonous breath and blood.
